AGNES BURONYI

AGNES BURONYI

Agnes is a Hungarian-born artist based in Sydney, Australia, whose work explores the tension between fragility and strength through material experimentation, light, and emotional expression.

Originally self-taught, her practice began with graphite and charcoal drawings, driven by a fascination with atmosphere, human presence, and visual storytelling. Over time, her artistic language expanded through studies in drawing, painting, design, and illustration, while remaining rooted in an instinctive and exploratory approach to making.

In recent years, shattered laminated glass has become central to her practice. Drawn to the material’s contradictions — delicate yet resilient, controlled yet unpredictable — Agnes transforms fractured surfaces into emotionally charged works that shift with light, movement, and perspective. Each piece evolves through a dialogue between intention and material response, where the unique breaking patterns of the glass shape the direction of the work, making every piece inherently singular and impossible to replicate exactly.

Her work often explores themes of identity, vulnerability, transformation, and inner strength. Through expressive details, subtle tension, and the interplay of texture, form, and light, Agnes creates works that invite stillness, contemplation, and emotional connection.

While glass remains an important focus, her practice continues to evolve fluidly across mediums, guided by experimentation, intuition, and an openness to new forms of visual expression, while drawing remains a lasting foundation within her work.

Alongside her artistic practice, Agnes has a background in analytics and data science — an influence that subtly informs the balance between structure and intuition present throughout her process.

From 2010 to 2022, she also built and led one of Hungary’s early online drawing education platforms, sharing artistic knowledge with a growing digital community.

Her work reflects an ongoing exploration of material, perception, and the quiet coexistence of beauty and fragility.
